Location: The role will be based from Woodville, an idyllic rural area close to schools and towns, 10 min to Maitland, 35 min to Newcastle.


Job Description: Reporting to the Cattle Manager, the role will primarily be dedicated to the beef cattle operation and will involve cattle husbandry as well as pasture management and some silage making for the cattle operations.

  • With approx. 600 predominantly Angus breeders, they concentrate on finishing steers & heifers on irrigated pastures for market by 2 years of age.

  • You will work closely with the owners, the Hodges family, to implement all tasks related to farming and stock management.

  • The successful applicant will have an aptitude for animal husbandry, low stress cattle handling techniques, mechanics, machinery, pasture, fencing, irrigation, heavy vehicle operation; formal qualifications would be an advantage and training will be encouraged and supported.

  • Some relief work at their nearby poultry operations will also be required (1 weekend in 6); however, no previous poultry experience is required, as training will be provided.

  • Arakoola is also home to the highly successful Arakoola Heritage Australian Stock Horses; dedicated breeders of Heritage ASH’s. With a modest horse setup at Woodville, there is the opportunity for a capable horse person to select some of these horses to ride and work, if they desired.


 The following ESSENTIAL criteria MUST BE MET:

  • Driver’s Licence; ideally MR but not essential as assistance will be provided to obtain

  • Minimum 5 YEARS experience working in a role with similar skills

  • A keen interest in farming and agriculture

  • Non-Smoker

  • Police Clearance & prepared to undertake drug & alcohol testing

  • Fitness, enthusiasm, with ability to perform efficiently without supervision in a safe, timely and professional manner

  • The desire to be a successful, long term employee, and grow within the organisation

  • The ability to apply knowledge and skills to multiple operations involving problem solving and decision making

  • Be an effective communicator and enjoy autonomy in a role.

  • This role requires the successful applicant to live ‘on farm’ and will include an unfurnished 3 BR cottage, garage and fenced yard with dog kennels.
