HEAD STOCKMAN

LEGUNE STATION, NT

Legune Station is owned and operated by the Australian Agricultural Asset Management Investment Group (AAMIG) and trades under Surf & Turf Cattle Operations. The station is located in the stunning East Kimberley district, 120km NE of Kununurra on the NT side of the border and is home to 18 full-time staff.  Legune runs 35 plant horses and 30,000 Brahman X cattle with the capacity to breed, grow and fatten cattle to supply domestic and live export markets. 

 

It’s not all work though with Legune being home to some of the best Barra fishing available in the Top End on your weekends off. Legune also provides easy access to top attractions such as Lake Argyle, the Bungle Bungles and El Questro just to name a few!

 

About the role:

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Head Stockman is responsible for managing a stock camp and conducting all cattle, horse, and feedlot husbandry practices. The head stockman must also maintain records, have experience in training staff with a safety focus and show a high level of leadership skills.

 

About you:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing a stock camp on a beef cattle operation.

  • Experience in managing cattle, horses and people, ideally in a remote environment.

  • Committed and motivated to upskilling your staff.

  • Must hold a current Open ‘HR’ Class Driver’s License.

  • Firearm license desirable.

  • Machinery operation qualifications desirable.

  • Motorbike licence preferred.

  • Mechanical experience preferred– Toyotas, HR Trucks and Bikes.

  • This role requires the incumbent to have been or be prepared to be vaccinated against tetanus, hepatitis and Q fever.

  • Senior First Aid certificate an advantage.
