Job Description:

  • Based 15kms outside of Surat, QLD, Wylarah Station is a high-functioning and successful farming operation. 

  • Wylarah Station is an integral part of AACo’s value chain, producing some of the best Wagyu in the world from the renowned Westholme stud. 

  • Wylarah aggregation also produces high quality grain and fodder crops to support the stud operations as well as other stations and feedlots within AACo.

  • Approximately 6,050ha in size, Wylarah Farm consists of 5,500ha of dry land farming and 550ha of flood irrigated crops, predominately growing grain, silage, and hay.

  • This role will be responsible for ensuring all farming operations, relevant reporting and budgetary financial requirements meet a high standard, while leading a team to ensure best practice procedures are maintained across all aspects of the business at all times.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

On any given day this could include, but not limited to;

  • Leadership and development of staff at the Farm.

  • Developing and maintaining beneficial relationships with key suppliers, partners and customers.

  • Ensuring cropping program fulfils critical commodity supply (i.e hay, silage for station requirements among others)

  • Be proactive in seasonal management of forage cropping to match feed pool changes.

  • Ensure irrigation systems are utilised to maximum efficiency where appropriate.

  • Management and accountability of budgets and P&L.

  • Reporting of paddock and crop conditions to management.

  • Working alongside the Station and Regional manager to operate as one integrated unit.

  • Ensuring the highest standards are upheld in terms of crop quality.

  • Responsible for the creation and execution of work program and crop rotation throughout the year.

  • Capital and project management.

  • Ensuring all work practices and processes are consistent and in line with Company Workplace Health and Safety Guidelines.


Key Responsibilities;

  • Strong people management skills with demonstrated ability in creating a diverse outcome focused team.

  • Experience in setting specific KPI’s ensuring that key Station and Company targets are met.

  • Full strategic accountability for the management and successful execution of the Farms management program including record keeping (e.g. Agworld).

  • Excellent organisational skills overseeing day to day operations of Wylarah’s farm team.

  • A hands-on approach on overall farming activities is essential

  • The ability to coordinate activities with other parts of Wylarah Station to maximise efficiencies.

  • Develop working relationships with advisors such as agronomists, reps, suppliers, contractors and other industry stakeholders.

  • Repairs & Maintenance of machinery and faming implements.

  • Coordinate and monitor contractors across farming, hay making, harvesting, spraying and other general activities.

  • Effective management of projects and capital expenditure processes to achieve Wylarah Farm’s objectives.

  • Maintain compliance with AACo’s policies and procedures including Workplace Health and Safety.

Job Requirements:

  • Outstanding leadership and people management skills.

  • Extensive experience in intensive farming operations including summer and winter crops.

  • Knowledge on innovation and advanced farming practices will be highly desirable.

  • Experience with flooding irrigation is essential part of this role.

  • Demonstrable experience in the creation and execution of key projects and strategic initiatives.

  • Chemical Certificates.

  • Ability to manage and develop a diverse and inclusive team.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Current driver’s license.

  • Other licenses or willingness to obtain (e.g. forklift, HR truck license, confined space and working at heights, first aid).
