Job Description:

  • We're on the lookout for a Livestock Manager to join our Goonoo crew. It's a hands-on gig where you'll be in charge of our Livestock Team, making sure everything runs smoothly.

  • Goonoo is a feedlot, backgrounding and farming property straddling the Comet River in Central Queensland. It is located 65km from Emerald, 20km south of Comet and 250km west of Rockhampton.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

The position of the Goonoo Livestock Manager is a key management position responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of the Goonoo Feedlot Livestock Team. The role responsible for supervising intake schedules and induction procedures of all cattle at Goonoo.  Supervising all cattle handling, handling for cattle treatment and selection and drafting for dispatch are key components of the role. Manage activity broadly to achieve annual production targets and to provide cattle to customers that meets the requirements for quality and safety.


Responsibilities are broad and the purpose of the position is to be accountable for ensuring all livestock operations, relevant reporting, and budgetary/financial requirements meet a high standard, while leading a team to ensure best practice procedures are maintained across all aspects of the business at all times.

  • Keeping a close eye on our cattle intake schedule and making sure they're fed, watered, and happy.

  • Checking out our cattle prior to induction, ensuring they meet our specs in terms of weight, type, and overall health.

  • Managing induction processed and procedures, giving the green light to our trained staff for any necessary treatments.

  • Coordinating cattle movements within the feedlot, making sure everyone is in the right place at the right time.

  • Riding the pens daily to keep things in line with our Livestock Procedures.

  • Working hand-in-hoof with our friendly Vet and making sure our hospital procedures are on point.

  • Leading the charge on culling and carcass management – not the most glamorous part of the job, but someone's got to do it!

  • Keeping tabs on our supplies, whether it's induction gear, hospital drugs, or anything else our cattle may need.

  • Supervising the selection and drafting

Job Requirements:

  • Someone with a knack for coaching and mentoring, who loves seeing their team succeed.

  • Experience in hitting set KPIs and making sure the financial targets are met.

  • A strategic thinker with a focus on successful execution of the Station's program

  • Organisational whiz with skills in planning, especially in our lively and diverse environment.

  • Tech-savvy and not afraid to use it to innovate and streamline our business.

  • Stakeholder management is your key strength

  • Experience in feedlot cattle management and a good understanding of animal welfare.

  • Knowledgeable about Quality Assurance Programs.

  • A pro at handling the nitty-gritty of operational cattle management.
