Job Description:

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Head Stockman is responsible for supporting the Station Manager with the daily operations and leading and managing the stock camp.


We currently have multiple full time roles available across Limbunya Station, Maryfield Station and Legune Station in NT.

  • Maryfield Station: Just off the Stuart Highway with all weather, year round access, only a short drive from Daly Waters and with Katherine a few hours away to the north. Maryfield Station is located on 147,300 hectares and has 16,636 head of cattle.

  • Limbunya Station: Situated approximately 650km south west of Katherine, just 100km from the Western Australian border. The station has 521,883 hectares and a herd of 32,210 head of cattle.

  • Legune Station: Situated 120km NE of Kununurra, across the NT/WA border on 352,270 hectares. Legune Station runs 28,417 head of cattle, with approximately 20 staff located at the station.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leading, training and developing a team of station hands.

  • Following health and safety procedures, identifying hazards and assessing and managing risk, ensuring safe and effective daily operations and low stress handling of livestock.

  • Livestock handling including, mustering, trucking, branding, and weaner management.

  • Providing and maintaining accurate livestock records and reports.

  • Other general station duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role and in leading and managing people.

  • Low stress livestock handling experience and a commitment to animal welfare.

  • Must have excellent horsemanship skills and a current manual driver’s licence.

  • Experience using computer systems to record livestock data.

  • First aid certificate, firearm licence, HR licence, welding/steel fabrication experience highly regarded.
