Job Description:
This is an ideal role for a career driven livestock professional who is passionate about people and livestock, seeking an opportunity to work in a fast paced, challenging environment with an established, progressive, growing business. Located 20 minutes from Cecil plains and just over an hour west of Toowoomba, our Opal Creek Feedlot is the largest of Australian Country Choice’s 3 Feedlots with 30,000 SCU capacity.
Our total team of about 45 manage a diverse mix of cattle feeding programs from short fed supermarket, mid fed Angus through to long fed Wagyu cattle.
As a fully integrated business, the majority of our feeder cattle are internally supplied by ACC properties to the feedlots, then once finished, onto our Cannon Hill Processing facility so Opal Creek Feedlot is a critical link in this supply chain.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Joining the Opal Creek management team and reporting to the Feedlot Manager, you’ll lead and manage our dedicated livestock crew of 18 to ensure safe and effective livestock operations through:
Ensuring a safe and productive work environment
Overseeing all livestock feeding, health and monitoring activity (including pen riding, diagnosis and treatment).
Planning and managing cattle movement activities, unloading/offloading, induction and drafting activities
Training, coaching and mentoring staff
Ensuring all regulatory and compliance requirements are met
Reviewing and monitoring data and information to be able to quickly identify trends, changes and implement changes as required
Management reporting
Job Requirements:
You may be an experienced Livestock Supervisor or Head Stock Person looking for your next challenge and progressing your career in livestock management. Along with demonstrated success at leading and managing a high performing livestock team, you’ll bring:
A passion for livestock and commitment to best practice animal welfare practices
Extensive hands-on experience handling cattle safely & quietly
Knowledge and understanding of compliance, food safety and regulatory requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to relate well to a range of people
In depth knowledge of animal health and husbandry practices
Sound computer literacy
A positive, proactive approach who can respond quickly to change
Current driver's licence.
