Job Description:
The Livestock Hand is an integral role within the livestock team assisting with all day-to-day livestock related operations.
Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Working under the general guidance and support of the Livestock Manager, the Livestock Hand will undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner:
Assist with day-to-day responsibilities in all aspects of cattle induction and receival, drafting, weighing and despatch.
Assist with riding and acclimating pens daily to ensure all cattle are in good health.
Draft any sick cattle or non-eaters and move to the hospital pen for treatment.
Follow chemical and drug management procedures with safe and responsible use of veterinary products.
Ensure all livestock is inducted into the feedlot as outlined in the relevant induction management procedures and work instructions.
Move cattle through yards to crush for individual processing.
Operate hydraulic crush, gates and feedlot software to record identification, weight and treatment for all cattle to a high degree of accuracy.
Inventory control and stocktaking of all livestock products.
Count and move cattle to feed pens using horses.
Carry out general cleaning and maintenance duties at feedlot yards and pens.
Keep general areas clean and tidy, removing rubbish and disposing of all waste.
Operate machinery as required.
Maintain compliance with Barmount Feedlot policies and procedures, including but not limited to quality assurance, workplace health and safety, animal welfare and environmental obligations.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skills in general cattle handling and husbandry in a low stress stock environment.
Good level of horsemanship.
Basic computer skills, becoming skilled in Possum Gully.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment effectively.
Personal Attributes
Supply up to two horses that are suitable for the position with own tack (preferable however not essential).
Good work ethic, mature outlook and an ability to follow instructions.
Willingness to show initiative and lead by example.
Self-motivated to “go the extra mile” to achieve results.
