Job Description:

  • Our Southern Downs Feedlot, 30km from Warwick, is seeking a Senior Stockperson to assist the Livestock Manager in coordinating the day-to-day cattle operations and leading the stock team to achieve each week’s objectives.

  • Currently in a growth phase and expanding to 10,000hd – the feedlot operates a long-fed wagyu program and is converting to a fully shedded feedlot.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The practical side of the role encompasses – inductions health checks, treatments, mustering, pen moves and exit drafting of the feedlotting cattle. 

  • In addition – this role would grow to be responsible for coordinating the backgrounding herd; calving and processing of the current 500 breeders; logistics of movements between properties, in consultation with the Livestock Manager.

Job Requirements:

The successful applicant must have the following skills and experience:

  • Min. 2 years’ experience in a feedlot environment, preferably in a leadership relevant role

  • Prior experience/training in low stress stockhandling

  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and treating ailments in cattle

  • Processing of calves and weaner management

  • Efficient operation in tasks and clear thinking under high pressure/time sensitive activities

  • Solution focused on any issues/problems that arise

  • Sound computer, written and numeracy skills

  • Can-do attitude and energy in completing tasks

  • Being clean, tidy, punctual and reliable is essential

  • HR Licence beneficial, Gun Licence beneficial

  • Experience with operating various types of plant and machinery beneficial

  • Learning to mix feed and feed-out is also a requirement of this role for weekend coverage.
