Job Description:

We have an opening for a full-time Head Stockperson to join our operations at Helen Springs Station in the NT. This role offers a great opportunity to join an exciting, industry leading Agribusiness, with scope for advancement after training and experience.


Helen Springs Station, located in the Barkly Tablelands in the Northern Territory, spans an impressive 5,600km2 and serves as a breeding property for up 27,000 head of cattle. Lush green gardens and lawns surround the station complex, which includes a swimming pool and social club. In your down time you might like to visit the nearest town, Tennant Creek. Helen Springs prides itself on providing a workplace that encourages personal growth, in a friendly and supportive team-based environment. Throughout the year, mustering operations and general station work intertwines with social events across the NT.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Head Stockperson will assist with planning, implementing and evaluating the livestock program and related station operations. Your key duties will include:

  • Supervising and undertaking effective and timely herd management, including mustering programs

  • Accurate recording of stock numbers for the livestock information system

  • Providing leadership, supervision and training of stock camp team members

  • Maintaining and developing facilities and improvements

  • Monitoring and responding to land and environmental issues

  • Assisting with purchasing.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the movement, handling and processing of cattle, using calm methods with the advantage of digitalised communication, improved weaner cradles, cattle crushes and yard shading

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a stock camp

  • Sound horsemanship and motorbike skills

  • Proven livestock assessment and husbandry experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills

  • A good grasp of technology and computer literacy

  • Ability to promote and maintain safe work practices

  • Good understanding of animal welfare practices

  • Sound, quiet and effective cattle handling skills

  • Mechanically minded

  • Ability to record information and communicate effectively in the workplace

  • Hold a current class C driver’s licence (truck licence an advantage, or be willing to obtain)

  • Hold a motorbike licence (preferred or be willing to obtain)

  • A genuine passion for Agriculture.
