Job Description:

Koojan Downs feeding facility is located 30kms from Moora and 160kms north of Perth.  Koojan Downs is part of the integrated beef supply chain for Harvest Road.  This integrated beef supply chain ranges from north to southwest of Western Australia and is based on best-practice ecological planning and animal welfare management. 


Our cattle are raised as nature intended, in one of the world’s cleanest environments. We believe this is the way beef should be and through our end-to-end supply chain we are able to uphold this quality – from breeding to farming, feeding and processing.


This new state of the art facility has the current capacity to hold 20,000 head with projected growth in the near future. With the expanding cattle numbers and the growth of the new facility many position vacancies have arisen to accommodate the growing facility and to assist current crews.


Current opportunities now available at Koojan Downs with the expansion and opening of the feeding facility:

  • Livestock Manager

  • Feedmill Hands

  • Livestock Hands

  • Feedmill and Livestock Leading Hands

  • Administration Assistant

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities, but not limited:


General Feedmill Duties:

  • Carry out feeding of livestock in accordance with Mill procedures

  • Carry out receival, handling and storage of commodities

  • Maintaining accurate records of commodities and feedstuffs

  • Feed mixing & delivery into feed bunks

  • Cleaning bunks


General Livestock Duties:

  • General daily cattle handling to ensure the identification and diagnosis of illnesses

  • Daily pen riding on horseback

  • Assisting in the receival procedure of livestock

  • Induction of livestock into the feedlot, following correct induction management procedures and relevant livestock work instructions

  • Unloading, loading, scanning, drafting and weighing of cattle

  • All aspects of cattle and horse husbandry and welfare including handling and veterinary treatments

  • Ensuring water troughs are maintained at all times


General Administration Duties:

  • Assist with commodity receivals including grain sampling and weighbridge operation

  • Assistance with livestock database and commodity contract management

  • Assistance with livestock communication and data record keeping along the integrated supply chain

  • Processing of supplier invoices, ensuring correct coding and approvals in collaboration with Harvest Road Finance Team


General Feedlot Duties:

  • Carry out all general cleaning and maintenance duties at the Feedmill, induction/hospital and surrounding commodity storage areas

  • Maintaining accurate records of commodities and feedstuffs

  • Operate loaders, tractors, bobcats and other heavy machinery to clean pens, move commodities, loading of trucks as required

  • Assist with vehicle and all facility maintenance as required

  • Other Station duties as required

Job Requirements:

Ideal skillset:

  • Previous experience of working in an intensive livestock handling operation preferred

  • Basic computer skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Current Driver's Licence (Heavy vehicle licence where applicable)

  • Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous

  • Ability to ride a horse along with basic level horsemanship

  • Basic level cattlemanship knowledge

  • Knowledge of intensive livestock production systems

  • Ability to work alone

  • Available to work rostered weekends
