In 2023 the management of Wave Hill and Killarney Stations, both based in the Victoria River Region of the NT, transferred from Jumbuck Pastoral to MacLachlan Pastoral Group (MPG).

Ultimately the change is minimal on the ground, and it remains with Callum MacLachlan as Executive Director of MPG with Matt and Connie Wood continuing the management of Wave Hill; and Michael Stanley and Alex Laurisson managing Killarney Station.

Job Description:

We are currently seeking Station Hand applications for both Killarney and Wave Hill Stations for the 2024 season and beyond:


KILLARNEY STATION:

The property is 280km south west of Katherine and lies some 25km off the Buntine Highway in the iconic Victoria River District of the NT and covers an area of 541,400ha running up to 40,000 head of Brahman cattle.


WAVE HILL STATION:

Wave Hill Station is located 450km South-West of Katherine in the beautiful and iconic Victoria River District of the Northern Territory. The property currently runs around 40,000 head of Brahman cattle across 2.9million acres of well developed, mixed country. The nearby township of Kalkarindji lies just 30 minutes from the station homestead.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As a Station Hand you will be part of the stock crew and report to the Head Stockman and Station Manager.

  • You will be involved in all aspects of station work that include mustering, branding, drafting, cattle education, fencing and other general station responsibilities. 

  • Mustering is done on horseback and during the season you can be expected to be camped out for lengths of time. 

  • Strong horsemanship experience is expected.

Job Requirements:

  • If you are motivated, keen to learn, take pride in your work, are a good communicator, work well in a team or by yourself and are looking to make a long-term commitment to the agriculture industry, we are keen to hear from you!

  • You must have a keen interest in horses as you will be riding them almost everyday, and when you are not riding them you will be cariing for them, feeding, watering, shoeing etc.
