Job Description:

Join our crew in 2024! Head stockman applications are open now, positions start on station Jan – Mar 2024 depending on the station.


The Head stockman, depending on the location, reports to the Overseer or Station Manager and leads a collaborative crew of approx 4 - 6 station hands ensuring the efficient and effective operations of the stock camp. To be considered for a Head Stockman position, you will need to be flexible and agile with the ability to think ahead! NAPCo are looking for Head stockman to join our crews at:

  • Monkira Station, QLD

  • Alexandria Station, NT

  • Soudan Outstation, NT

  • Coolullah Station, QLD

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Running the stock camp

  • Communicating clearly and leading by example

  • Mustering on horseback and motorbikes

  • Undertaking general station duties

  • Delivering to the work schedule

  • Operating machinery / trucks (on occasion)

Job Requirements:

Ideally the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working as a Leading Hand or Head Stockman on a cattle station

  • An effective communication style and strong leadership skills

  • Excellent livestock handling skills, of a quiet and sensible nature

  • Strong horsemanship and/or motorbike riding skills

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring staff and developing their skills

  • The ability to work in, build and lead a team effectively

  • Organisational and record keeping skills

  • Be committed to working safely in accordance with NAPCo's HSE policies and procedures

  • A MR, HR or HC Licence (or willingness to get one)

Pre-employment requirements

  • Prior to commencement, all new employees are required to undertake an Australian National Police Check and are also required to be vaccinated against Q Fever (all associated costs covered by NAPCO).
