Newry Station is a large-scale mixed operation 45km out of Kingston SE, South Australia. The property has 6,500HA of grazing land, stocking a self-replacing flock of 6,700 merino ewes and self-replacing herd of 1,200 Angus cows. This is complimented with 500HA of fodder production and cropping. The cropping undertaken is part of a pasture renovation program. The property employs 5 full time staff as well as casuals and contractors as needed during peak periods.

Newry has been family owned and operated for over 50 years.

Job Description:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Station Hand to join our team and support the Farm Manager in the operations of our mixed grazing property. 

  • This position will suit a station hand with approximately 5 years experience looking for career development.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

The senior station hand will assist with all livestock operations, including:

  • Allocating stock to the appropriate paddocks

  • Assessment of pasture availability

  • Livestock health management

  • Shearing and crutching

  • Ensuring accurate records are made and maintained for all farm operations including livestock transactions, animal health treatments, inventory

  • Maintenance of vehicles, plant and infrastructure including fencing and water


The Senior Station Hand will also be given the opportunity to oversee the farm operations on occasion when the Farm Manager is away.

Job Requirements:

  • The successful applicant must be reliable, have a good work ethic and have a keen interest in the agricultural industry. 

  • You will be required to have working dogs for use with cattle and sheep in paddock and yard settings. 

  • You will be able to demonstrate good communication and time management. 

  • You must be committed to WHS and safe work processes, work well in a team environment, be self- motivated, energetic and take pride in the quality of work they do.

  • A car licence is essential.
