Job Description:

The department Research Stations provides farm facilities to conduct agricultural research; the most important aspect of this position is to assist with maintenance and operations of farm facilities and equipment and assist with cattle management activities



Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Farm Managers to coordinate and manage station operations, and to supervise and direct station staff.

  2. Undertake day-to-day work of the Research Station, including livestock and rangeland management and operating, repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment.

  3. Repair and maintain farm plant, machinery and equipment including tractors and heavy machinery.

  4. Assist the Farm Managers in the safe and efficient operation of the Research Stations, including the development and implementation of WHS initiatives which positively encourage the workplace safety culture.

  5. Assist the Farm Managers to facilitate research and extension programs, and be involved in extension activities such as field days and demonstrations.

  6. Undertake accurate data collecting and recording activities and in maintain station records.

Job Requirements:

Essential selection criteria:

  1. An appropriate Associate Diploma or Certificate in Livestock management, Pastoral Production, Agriculture or related field, and/or considerable relevant experience.

  2. A Certificate III in Heavy or Light vehicle mechanics or demonstrated a broad level of experience with the operation, repair and maintenance of farm plant, machinery and equipment, including tractors and heavy machinery.

  3. Experience with computers and familiarity with relevant software packages.

  4. Demonstrated experience with cattle handling, mustering, and animal husbandry practices.

  5. Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, and ability to work with limited supervision.

  6. Ability to interact positively with the public, contractors and government staff working on the farm.

  7. Demonstrated Workplace Health and Safety leadership and proven ability to assist with managing workplace risks, and promoting a safety culture.

  8. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

All of the following may be required:

  • Hold a current HR NT drivers licence and drive a 4WD vehicle.

  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.

  • Hold a ChemCert or SmarTrain Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.

  • Work outside of standard hours when required.
