An outstanding opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Alice Springs and Old Man Plains Research Farms as a Technical Officer.
Located on the outskirts of Alice Springs, the Research Farms are mixed farming research and demonstration facilities focusing on beef cattle production, horticultural trials and best practice semi-arid rangeland management.

Job Description:
You will assist senior staff to undertake the daily farm activities at the AZRI (Arid Zone Research Institute) and Old Man Plains Research Farms with an emphasis on the day-to-day maintenance and management of facilities, grounds, equipment, livestock and crops.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Operation and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment
Maintenance of Research Farm infrastructure including mowing, weed control, grounds and tree maintenance.
Assist with management of livestock and crops, including livestock handling and irrigation.
Undertake farm grounds and facilities maintenance activities including for fences, yards and water infrastructure.
Assist with research farm development activities and support extension activities such as field days and demonstrations.
Undertake accurate data recording activities and maintain farm records.
Be familiar with and adhere to safe work practices and willing to work outside of standard hours when required.
Job Requirements:
Essential:
An appropriate qualification in agriculture or related field, and / or considerable relevant experience
Experience with farm operations, livestock handling, data collection and general farming practices.
Proven experience in farming facilities and infrastructure maintenance including welding and grading.
Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of farm machinery and equipment used in agricultural production.
A positive team oriented approach and ability to work effectively with limited supervision, plus willingness to interact positively with people of diverse cultures, and willingness to follow direction and correct procedures.
Effective interpersonal, written, computer and oral communication skills.
Drive a manual 4WD vehicle.
Desirable:
A current Heavy Rigid driver’s licence.
Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
Hold a ChemCert or SmarTrain Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
