Jimbour Station is located approximately 30km north of Dalby, QLD and comprises approximately 4,750 hectares of diverse country and which includes prized Jimbour Plain chocolate soils used for cropping as well as basalt soils on the hill country which is used for grazing and the production of fodder.
Jimbour backgrounds approximately 1,500 F1 & F2 Wagyu yearlings per annum as well as running approximately 500 high quality Angus cows for use in the Wagyu program.

Job Description:

  • Russell Pastoral Operations is seeking a motivated Station Manager for Jimbour Station located 30km north of Dalby, QLD.

  • There are two business enterprises running on Jimbour Station, the first being our agricultural operation which is a mixed cattle and farming operation.  The second is a hospitality business operating out of the historic Jimbour House, which has very little cross over with our agricultural business.  The exception to this is when major festivals are held (approximately twice a year) and which utilises some of our paddocks around Jimbour House for camping/parking etc.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management of on property breeding and young cattle programs that integrate into breeding and value adding programs conducted on other RPO cattle operations.

  • Manage young cattle in a cost effective and time efficient manner.

  • Management of cattle confidently and in a quiet, controlled and low stress manner.

  • Maintain accurate herd inventory and movement recording.

  • In consultation with Senior Management develop annual cash and fodder cropping programs.

  • Develop & implement annual and triennial property infrastructure development and maintenance programs in consultation with Senior Management.

  • Develop and maintain fire prevention management programs.

  • Operation of heavy machinery including Tractors, Loaders and Graders.

  • General maintenance to a high standard of vehicles, machinery, water systems, roads, fencing and yards.

  • Adherence to all company programs including animal health protocols and workplace health and safety programs.

  • Detailed monthly electronic station reports including seasonal, livestock, management and

WH&S data:

  • Supervision of permanent and contract station staff in a calm and competent manner, ensuring company general and WH&S policies are adhered to.

  • Adhere to all animal welfare incl vaccination programs, workplace health and safety, labour and environmental laws.

  • Be responsible for approving, coding and scanning all quotes, purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices to nominated Senior Management and Accounting & Administration staff, in a timely manner.

  • Work productively with external suppliers, partners and colleagues to ensure budgets and logistical arrangements are monitored and maintained.

  • At times you may be required to provide meals (funded by the company) for casual employees/contractors.

  • Required to report number and type of cattle used for station meat.

  • Respond to enquiries either by phone, in person or by email, ensuring an accurate and timely response or, where appropriate, referral to the appropriate person for resolution.

Job Requirements:

  • Display a high level of effective communication skills.

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for car, motorbike and body truck categories.
