SOUTHERN GULF NRM

Southern Gulf NRM (SG NRM) is a not-for-profit community-based company responsible for planning and implementation of sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM) in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria region of Northwest Queensland. The Southern Gulf region covers 216,000 square kilometres and comprises the catchments of the Flinders-Cloncurry, Leichardt, Gregory-Nicholson Rivers, Settlement Creek and Morning Inlet, and the Wellesley Islands.

Southern Gulf NRM’s purpose is to empower the community to manage the regions natural assets for current and future generations. Programs are delivered collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including all levels of government, industry groups, Traditional Owners, and conservation groups.

Southern Gulf NRM currently employs twelve (12) staff, and is governed by a Board of Directors under the provisions of the Corporations Act 2001 and the Constitution of Southern Gulf NRM Ltd.

Job Description:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to join the Board of Directors of Southern Gulf NRM Ltd.


Southern Gulf NRM Ltd is a community based, NRM focussed company limited by guarantee. 


Our objectives are:

  • The protection and enhancement of the natural environment or of a significant aspect of the natural environment

  • To fulfil the role of a regional Natural Resource Management Body for the Southern Gulf Region

  • Implement the SG Regional NRM Strategy

  • Be accountable for project funds for the implementation of The Strategy

  • Support the management of natural resources and sustainability.


We are the leader in regional natural resources management in Southern Gulf.


As per our Constitution three of our director’s terms will finish at the end of January 2024.

We are recruiting for these three positions.

Note 1: Current directors are eligible to reapply for these positions.

Note 2: The board reserves the right not to fill all three positions.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Applicants must have a range of skills including one or more of the following:

  • Strong understanding of the natural resource management sector – particularly in the SGNRM region

  • Understanding of current and emerging policies impacting on NRM

  • Strong links with the local communities and the ability to engage with stakeholders

  • Governance and strategic planning skills

  • Financial and business acumen
