Job Description:

  • We are currently seeking Farm Hands throughout WA to assist the Farm Overseer to plan and carry out the day to day operational aspects of the stock and pastoral management, with the key objective being to maximise the productivity and profitability of the cattle on the property, without compromising plant condition, stock welfare or other staff.

Locations include:

  1. Boathaugh Farm - Brockman Highway, Karridale/Margaret River (South WA – No accommodation provided).

  2. Princefield Farm - Princefield Road, Busselton (South WA – No accommodation provided).

  3. Water Valley Farm - Mount Horner West Rd, Allanooka (30 min from Port Denison North WA – No accommodation provided).

  4. Petro Farm - Brand Highway, Arrowsmith East, Western Australia (30 min from Port Denison North WA – Accommodation is provided).

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

WORK, HEALTH & SAFETY (WH&S)

  • To assist the Farm Overseer to ensure that at all times work is carried out in a manner which complies with the requirements of the WH&S policies relevant to the State the property is based, its amendments and regulations and the WH&S Policies and Procedures of the Company.


STOCK

  • Assist the Farm Overseer to maximise stock health and performance in balance with ensuring optimal pasture and feed management on a daily, weekly and annual basis.

  • Assist the Farm Overseer to maintain suitable l stocking ratios and or feed requirements to ensure a focus on key classes of stock.

  • Assist the Farm Overseer to ensure target weights are achieved in a timely manner and that stock are presented in an optimal state to their given market.

  • Assist the Farm Overseer with timely implementation of the main stock priorities, including but not limited to joining, calving weaning, scanning, implementation of animal health programs, trucking and any required testings in conjunction with farm and policies.

  • Adherence to farm policies, including the development programme, projected livestock increases versus livestock performance.

  • Assist the Farm Overseer with record keeping including all mandatory record keeping, stock performance and live weights, animal diagnostics, stock tallies (monthly stock reconciliation), rainfall, soil temperature, pest monitoring, vehicle maintenance and a full and comprehensive diary.


ANIMAL HEALTH

  • Monitor animal health status and maintain accurate records in accordance with farm policies.

  • Ensure all animal health treatments are used in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines, specifically adhering to the outlined dose rate, stock suitability and associated withholding periods.

  • Abide by safe handling practices when handling and administering sprays, dips, drenches or any other Ag-Chem products.


GENERAL FARM WORK

  • Farm fence, water and machinery maintenance to be undertaken when required or directed.

  • Farm hygiene – All paddocks, farm buildings and surroundings are to be kept in a safe and presentable condition.

  • Paddock maintenance, such as weed control, rock and stick removal, are to be performed when required or when directed.

  • Executing paddock programmes as determined by management.

  • Other duties and activities as directed by management - Weekly reporting of activities and observations to Management.


Job Requirements:

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to contribute to a team environment, be a team player and add value to that team when required.

  • Must be willing to take on responsibility, be confident at working independently and have the knowledge, experience and initiative to plan an effective, undirected day’s work.

  • Must be well acquainted with the seasonal feed requirements of the key classes of stock in terms of the animal health requirements and the ever-changing feeding priorities.

  • Must be willing and eager to make the business grow successfully.

  • Must have good observation and deduction skills and the ability to act appropriately when situations arise.

  • Good communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to express oneself clearly and offer an opinion able to be supported through discussion and debate.

  • Able to take constructive direction in a positive manner.

  • Good observational skills and a questioning nature, willing to challenge existing farm practices with supporting evidence, to observe a problem or potential opportunity, to think through the consequences and to offer suggestions.

  • To show a high level of stockmanship skills.

  • An understanding of the basic biology of stock, soils and plants i.e. reproduction, growth, health, and so on.

  • High personal standards – discipline, loyalty, honesty, and integrity. Must be tidy, both in the workplace and around home.

  • Show a high degree of time management skills.


GENERAL

  • Capable of general farm repairs and maintenance and farm development including but not exclusively fencing, water reticulation systems and general plant.

  • To maintain a team of suitable dogs (if required) and have the skills to work them in an effective manner.

  • All stock including dogs, horses or other farm animals are cared for in a humane way.

  • All animals owned by you are only to be kept on farm if prior approval has been obtained from the Managing Director and all necessary vaccination and animal health requirements are up to date.

  • Must treat the employer’s tools, equipment and vehicles with care and respect.

  • Willing to work in with and incorporate advice from outside specialists.

  • Prepared to adapt new technology and adapt research findings to the farm situation.
