Thomas Foods Feedlot forms part of the agricultural division of Thomas Foods International (TFI), one of Australia’s largest family-owned businesses since 1988. Our Feedlot is a 17,000 head cattle operation on the idyllic Limestone Coast in South Australia, a key operation for growing, supplying, and distributing premium meat to the world. We are currently undergoing an expansion to 30,000 head capacity which will create several exciting opportunities to join a close-knit team in a role that will truly make an impact in the community.

Job Description:

Thomas Foods Feedlot is a modern beef-feeding operation that requires daily animal husbandry of cattle. The Livestock Hand / Pen Rider roles are responsible for the husbandry of cattle on site.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Receiving, drafting, processing and moving of cattle daily;

  • Administration of animal health products;

  • General livestock husbandry tasks;

  • Facility maintenance.

  • Pen Riders must have at least 2 suitable working horses and saddlery to be considered for the position, which attracts an allowance for the maintenance of your horses.


Other duties of the Pen Riders include:

  • Horse-based animal husbandry tasks;

  • Monitoring cattle health on horseback;

  • Drafting and moving cattle on horse.

Job Requirements:

While not essential, ideally you will have:

  • Experience in the livestock industry;

  • Good stock sense and handling skills;

  • Strong horse-based applicable skills;

  • Computer-based record-keeping experience;

  • Knowledge of WHS and QA systems.
