Current farming activities are within 30 minutes from Toowoomba and have a strong focus on hay production, with a irrigation development likely. This product feeds directly into The Toowoomba Hay Farm wholesale / retail outlet on the Feed Central site at Charlton.

Job Description:

  • The position is a key role within the broader Feed Central team. Toowoomba Hay Farm is a separate commercial entity to Feed Central, but the two have extensive interactivity and share our company owned site at Charlton.

  • This position would report to the Managing Director, with extensive support from the broader Feed Central team.

  • The team will respond to someone who is able to lead; grow the business and roll up their sleeves to help get the job done.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

This is a unique role, with a very strong focus on business growth and expansion, managing our farming and wholesale/ retail business. Day to day activities will include:

  • Managing contractors and agronomist to optimise farming activities.

  • Working with the Feed Central team to purchase product for the Toowoomba Hay Farm retail outlet.

  • Sales of product from the retail outlet, including purchased product and product grown on our own farms.

  • Managing off farm storage, including rodent control, machine loading and unloading.

  • Strategy development, including feasibility and working with the Director on capital development, farm and business expansion, irrigation development.

  • Expanding product range and supply to ensure customer needs are met.

  • Complete P and L responsibility for the farming / retail business.

  • Building and managing your team over time.

Key outcomes that indicate effectiveness in this role include:

  • Strong working relationships with all team members.

  • Successful farm management.

  • Warehouses effectively managed.

  • The maintenance of a safe workplace and culture.

  • Income growth with Toowoomba Hay Farm business unit operating at a profit.

Job Requirements:

  • A strong desire to grow a business.

  • Farming background, especially in dryland and irrigated cropping. Hay experience is not critical.

  • Ability to manage contractors and work with agronomists is essential.

  • A love of working with and helping people as this position requires extensive people contact (buyer, sellers, broader Feed Central team etc)

  • Understanding of business and management principals. With ability to roll up the sleeves to get the job done and operate strategically.

  • Ability to form and manage your own team over time.

  • Forklift license preferable as is experience with machinery.
