The Station Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing station vehicles, plant, and equipment to ensure reliable & safe day-to-day operations on a remote cattle station.
Duties include diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out preventative maintenance, conducting breakdown repairs in workshop and field settings, and managing tools and parts.
The role requires strong mechanical skills, the ability to work independently in remote conditions, and a commitment to safety and station productivity.
The Tipperary Group of Stations is one of Australia’s most iconic pastoral operations, located just 2 hours from Darwin. The groups focus is breeding & back rounding cattle with a large scale broadacre farming operation.
Service, maintain, and repair station vehicles, machinery, and equipment
Diagnose and rectify mechanical and hydraulic faults
Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
Respond to breakdowns in workshop and field environments
Maintain tools, parts inventory, and workshop safety standards
Support station operations by minimizing equipment downtime
Trade qualification or strong practical experience as a mechanic
Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles and station equipment
Experience working independently in remote or regional environments
Strong problem-solving skills and reliability
Commitment to workplace safety and maintenance standards
Valid driver’s license (HR license desirable)

CATTLE
Cattle breeding and backgrounding are the main enterprises at the Tipperary Group of Stations. The production system is centred on Brahman cattle, a tropical breed that is very well suited to north Australian conditions. With huge areas of recently developed pastures and access to the fertile Litchfield floodplain, the Group enjoys capacity to carry one of the Territory’s largest cattle herds.
Tipperary Group of Stations is highly committed to Animal Welfare standards to ensure all animals in the Group’s custody are treated humanely. All employees that work with animals are experienced in the humane handling of stock and are trained in accordance with company policies and procedures.
MARKETS AND EXPORTS
As well as the traditional live-export markets of Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, we are also looking to develop new markets for cattle, fodder and other commodities. In particular, we have strong interest in developing long term commercial relationships for the supply of our premium grade fodder.
FARMING
Fodder production is currently the major farming enterprise carried out at Tipperary Station. We produce premium quality Rhodes grass hay under centre-pivot irrigation, and dry-land jarrah grass hay on a large scale. In addition to hay production, the station is also home to several thousand mango trees, and the Group is also exploring many opportunities for cropping production.
SCHOOL
Tipperary Station School is a small primary school which is part of the Top End Group School. At Tipperary Station School, students enjoy access to a comfortable classrooms and excellent sporting facilities such as a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a basketball court and a large gym. The school is run by a dedicated Teaching Principal and a Teacher’s Assistant. All students attending the school live on the station and at present all year levels are taught in the one classroom.
