LIVESTOCK OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

Macquarie Wagyu is a diverse agricultural operation situated at Macquarie Downs which is an hour south of Toowoomba on the Condamine River. We breed, background, feedlot and market fullblood and crossbred Wagyu cattle for the ultimate beef taste and flavour.

 

Enterprises at Macquarie Downs consist of livestock, feedlot and broadacre crop farming and covers a total of almost 10,000 hectares.The business is constantly evolving and we seek to employ someone that has a positive attitude and is supportive of change and progression for themselves and the business.

 

The position of Livestock Operations Supervisor (Paddock) is a hands-on position for an experienced person in this field who has developed observation skills, attention to detail, and is able to undertake the day-to-day operations of the Livestock enterprise.  

 

Macquarie Wagyu is one of the leading Wagyu herds in Australia and breeds approximately 700 full-blood wagyu females annually, and backgrounds the progeny to feedlot entry.

START DATE: Immediate

 

ABOUT THE ROLE: This position will suit a highly motivated self-starter who is able to work both on their own unsupervised, and as part of the team.  Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for: 

  • Livestock Husbandry

  • Stud Cattle Operations (including liaison with management for artificial breeding programs)

  • General Livestock Management

  • Pasture Management and Supplementary Paddock Feeding

  • Accurate Recordkeeping and Data Management using Electronic Systems

  • Machinery Operations including tractor, loader, bobcat, body truck, etc

  • Property Maintenance including fences and waters

  • Occupational Health and Safety

  • Assist, where required, in other day-to-day operations including the feedlot

KEYSKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent livestock handling and husbandry skills

  • Understanding of Quality Assurance Systems

  • MR / HR Truck Licence

  • Basic Computer Skills

  • Previous experience within an intensive cattle breeding operation is desirable

  • Willingness to “buy into company culture” and display a commitment to the brand
