Macquarie Wagyu is a diverse agricultural operation situated at Macquarie Downs which is an hour south of Toowoomba on the Condamine River.  We breed, background, feedlot and market fullblood and crossbred Wagyu cattle for the ultimate beef taste and flavour.  


Enterprises at Macquarie Downs consist of livestock, feedlot and broadacre crop farming and covers a total of almost 10,000 hectares.  The business is constantly evolving and we seek to employ someone that has a positive attitude and is supportive of change and progression for themselves and the business.


The position of Maintenance Leading Hand is a hands-on position for an experienced person in this field who has developed observation skills, attention to detail, and is able to undertake the day-to-day maintenance across all operations, being feedlot, farm, and livestock, and assist in the coordination of contractors and scheduling for the farm enterprise which comprises of 400 hectares under irrigation and over 800 hectares of dry land farming.  


About the Role

This full-time position will suit a highly motivated self-starter who is able to work both on their own unsupervised, and as part of the team.  Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Machinery and Property Maintenance including farming/feedlot plant and equipment, irrigators, vehicles and general maintenance of farm and feedlot infrastructure

  • Machinery Operations including tractors (GPS), farming implements, loader, skidsteer, body truck, etc

  • Coordination of Workshop operations and maintaining a neat and tidy workspace in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements

  • Maintenance and operation of silo complex and augers

  • Operate lateral and centre pivot Irrigation systems

  • Assist with liaison with Contractors and consulting Agronomist relating to the Farming Enterprise

  • Accurate Recordkeeping and Data Management using Electronic Systems

  • Understanding quality assurance programs and site operating procedures

  • Occupational Health and Safety

  • Assist, where required, in other day-to-day operations


Key Skills Required:

  • Ability to undertake maintenance and repairs as required on large fixed and mobile plant, light vehicles and machinery

  • Ability to schedule and complete regular services and equipment inspections

  • Good technical and mechanical skills

  • Ability to maintain preventative maintenance programs with attention to detail

  • Ability to undertake fabrication and welding tasks where required

  • Demonstrated experience in operation of broadacre farming machinery

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Basic auto electrical abilities

  • HR Truck Licence (or ability to obtain)

  • ChemCert Accreditation (or ability to obtain)

  • Basic Computer Skills
