Dry River Station is a 65,000-hectare working cattle property located near Katherine in the Northern Territory and is part of the Paspaley Groups strong portfolio of national agricultural interests. The Station runs approximately 5000 Brahman breeding cows producing progeny for finishing at the Group’s flood plain properties along the Mary River near Darwin.

Job Description: 

Although this role is to focus mainly on managing the day-to-day operations of the Dry River Station cattle enterprise, it also requires the person to liaise and work in conjunction with the Dry River-Cropping Manager regarding general operational requirements of the station. 

 

Reporting to the General Manager-Rural Properties, this is an exciting position with a progressive company and would suit an experienced Livestock Manager who is looking to further their career and enhance their skills in other facets of agriculture.

 

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out animal husbandry practices.

  • Maintenance and repair of all plant, equipment and infrastructure of the station complex.

  • Development and implementation of work programs including the direction of employees and or contractors to deliver on agreed objectives.

  • Pasture and weed management.  

  • Commitment to the company’s strong Workplace Health & Safety program by supporting a culture of continuous improvement and aiding to always ensure the safety of all persons on the property.

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form. 

  • Sound mechanical knowledge and abilities (especially around pumps and troughs) 

  • Must have an excellent understanding of the highest standards of animal welfare and low-stress stock handling techniques. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and management experience.

  • Must have competent computer skills, especially Microsoft packages i.e. Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Must be able to work as a part of a tight team.

  • Must have the ability and skills to problem-solve.

  • Must be a self-starter with a hardworking ethos who is energetic and well-organised and prepared to follow through a given task to completion.

  • Chem-Cert certificate preferred.

  • Must be committed to always providing a safe workplace.

  • An unrestricted driver’s license – current at all times.

  • Australian citizenship or be a permanent resident.

Maintenance and general duties which includes but is not limited to:

  • Checking water, water infrastructure set up

  • Fencing

  • Livestock supplements

  • General Maintenance

  • Maintenance and repair of plant and equipment, infrastructure and grounds of the station complex

  • Weed Control

  • Assist with property developments and projects

  • Be capable in first aid and emergency medical evacuation of required

  • To undergo training as required by management.
