The Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association (NTCA) is the peak body for the NT cattle industry, providing leadership at the Territory, national and international level on industry, trade, resource management, and economic and social policy. 

This is an excellent position for someone with at least 2 years Station Hand experience. You will be travelling to cattle stations throughout the NT, as well as camp drafts and rodeos, talking to participants and promoting the RJP (Real Jobs Program), as well as undertaking skills sessions on stations with RJP workers, this could include horse work, mustering skills, fencing, yard work or basic maintenance work.

Job Description: Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be expected to contribute to the development, monitoring, administration and day-to-day operation of the NTCA’s Indigenous training and employment program in the Northern Territory. 

 

To be successful as a Pastoral Support Officer, you will have previous experience working within the Northern Pastoral Industry and with Indigenous Australians, need to be able to work on tight deadlines, be competent in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, and have exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Under limited direction, assist Indigenous people to gain employment in the NT pastoral industry. 

  2. Work with training providers so that Indigenous people develop the necessary skills required for a successful career in the pastoral industry. 

  3. Offer mentoring assistance to Indigenous workers, supporting their development within the NT pastoral industry. 

  4. Assist employers and Indigenous workers in overcoming hurdles and challenges and develop workable solutions. 

  5. Liaise with communities, private sector and other key stakeholders. 

  6. Assist with the preparation of brief reports and plans as required. 

  7. Ensure that nominated projects meet strategic Work Health &Safety and animal welfare outcomes. 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Requirements:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience working with Indigenous Australians. 

  2. Relevant experience working in the pastoral industry or 

  3. Highly developed cross-cultural awareness and mentoring skills. 

  4. High level written and oral communication skills, including presentation and negotiation skills to suit a wide range of audiences. 

  5. Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with government, stakeholders and key agencies showing a high level of understanding and regard to differing backgrounds, culture and regional issues. 

  6. Proven ability to work autonomously and within a team to achieve practical, innovative solutions with the capability to prioritise work to meet deadlines. 

  7. High level of accuracy and attention to detail with well-developed reporting and documentation skills. 

  8. Well-developed reporting and documentation skills. 

  9. Ability to travel to remote areas within Australia for extended periods (2-3 weeks). 

  10. Sound computer skills including Microsoft Office. 

  11. Current ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence. 

Desirable:

  1. Awareness of the Indigenous Real Jobs Program and Vocational Education and Training and their objectives. 

  2. A solid network in the pastoral industry and ability to secure genuine positions for Indigenous persons in the industry. 

  3. Knowledge and understanding of relevant work health and safety legislation for the Northern Territory.
