Koojan Downs, SW of Moora is going to be Western Australia’s largest cattle feeding facility, purpose built to supply Harvest Road’s processing facility, Harvey Beef. 

About the Role:

We are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join our ‘work’ family and ensure the success of this new operation. As an integral role on the leadership team, you will be responsible for the everyday operation of the feeding facility, ensuring daily targets are met and our employees are managed accordingly to the Harvest Road’s animal welfare, safety, and quality procedures.

We are looking for someone who is progressive, has a positive attitude, a genuine dedication to animal welfare and wants to make a career in the WA cattle industry. Working with the Facilities Manager and Administration Manager you must be able to lead, mentor and coach others in the team.

Key Responsibilities of the role are (but not limited to):

  • Lead, motivate and develop a high performing team to effectively carry out all aspects of the day-to-day operations.

  • Train and develop your team in safe and low stress handling of all livestock.

  • Supervise cattle management practices and suggest any improvements to feeding facility efficiencies.

  • Manage and oversee all livestock nutrition and feeding requirements. 

  • Adopt a proactive approach to identifying hazards, assessing risk and reporting incidents.

  • Undertake routine maintenance tasks.

  • Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to by all employees.

  • Manage livestock inventory and record keeping.

  • Backfill for leave and other unexpected events when required with the ability to jump I and assist across any operational requirements.

  • Assist with management reporting.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an animal production business.

  • Proven staff management experience.

  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities and opportunities as they arise.

  • Ability to adapt to change.

  • Willingness to fill in across all operational requirements when required.

  • Sound ability to effectively monitor and manage costs.

  • High computer literacy.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Desired criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification an advantage.

  • Knowledge of National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS) highly regarded.

  • Qualifications in relevant industry will be advantageous.
