Job Description:

  • The Bore Runner at Brunette Downs may perform a range of activities in relation to the maintenance of station bores, windmills and other watering facilities, working in conjunction with the bore mechanic. 

  • This is a physical job that includes working both Indoors and Outdoors in all types of climatic conditions.

  • You may also be exposed to the elements of wind, heat, dust, rain.


Brunette Downs is situated in the middle of the Barkly Tableland and is located 350km north east of the nearest town, Tennant Creek and 660km northwest of Mount Isa in Queensland which serves as the station’s main service town. Brunette Downs is well known because of the ABC or Brunette Races, an outback racing carnival which is held annually in June.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Carry out duties in a planned way, following work schedules, organising materials and equipment prior to commencing work

  • Maintain bore, turkey nest level, nest fence, troughs, motors and pump jacks and helical rotors Pre-start checks of vehicles including fuel

  • Check and gather all equipment and maintenance supplies for the day

  • Keep records in writing of each bore site visited and record water levels and numbers of cattle watering at troughs

  • Report all breakdowns to relevant persons (Station Manager or Bore Mechanic) Requires immediate reporting to maintain animal welfare, use of radio/ sat phone

  • Keep records of maintenance conducted and parts for each bore

  • Complete regular servicing of bore motors including oil and filter changes and cleaning, check belts and replace or tighten as required

  • Scheduled servicing of pumps (every 100-200 hours depending on motor) and troughs

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience or exposure to a similar role

  • Current Drivers Licence and Heavy Rigid Licence

  • Demonstrated competency in all tasks reasonably required of a Bore Mechanic Ability to work both alone and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to organise/prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, whilst working under pressure Mature and rational approach to problem solving
