Job Description:

Bore Runners and Maintenance Hands play a critical role in helping us ensure the health and welfare of our livestock and that the station runs safely & smoothly.


Barkly Downs is 150km from Mount Isa in QLD, it is 942,500 hectares or 2,328,968 acres and is primarily used for large-scale breeding purposes with young stock moved south-east onto central Queensland properties to grow out. Carrying Capacity: 52,631 head

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Bore Runners have the primary and very important responsibility of monitoring water supply to cattle across the property.  

  • You'll work independently, driving a company vehicle to diligently check diesel and solar pumps, monitor troughs, tanks & turkey's nests. 

  • Maintenance hands enjoy the variety that goes with monitoring, maintaining and repairing various property assets, plant, equipment, fencing, pipework and infrastructure so that it is kept in safe and good working order.

  • You will get to enjoy being a part of a large, energetic and diverse crew and sharing your knowledge and experience to help train others. 

  • We will also rely on your excellent observation skills, common sense and logic to notice, and promptly report any issues or potential concerns around livestock, fences and general infrastructure.

Job Requirements:

Whilst specific experience is not required, you'll need to have a willingness to embrace the station life along, have the commitment to doing quality work all the time, along with:

  • Valid manual driver's licence

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability

  • Great communication skills and be able to positively interact with a range of people

  • Be highly reliable & trustworthy

  • Committed to working safely at all times
