Job Description:

  • We are looking for an experienced and capable Road Train Driver to join the team at our Barkly Downs Station, ACC’s largest cattle breeding property on 2.3 million acres, located 150km North of Mt Isa on the Northern Territory border.

  • Barkly Downs is currently running over 42,000 head of bulls, cows and calves across 2.3 million acres.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • This role is primarily responsible for ensuring livestock is safely transported and in line with best practice animal handling and animal welfare standards and undertaking basic services and minor maintenance and repairs.  

  • You’ll also get to enjoy variety and be involved in the day-to-day operations of the station, helping the livestock and maintenance teams when available.

Job Requirements:

You will be an energetic multi-skilled individual with a positive mindset and has a genuine aptitude for and interest in mechanical equipment, who can work safely whilst unsupervised, along with multiple different teams of staff across the station.


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • HC or MC license.

  • Experience transporting livestock.

  • Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed on time, accurately and to a high standard.

  • A commitment to working safely and ability to follow procedures.

  • Communication skills & a good team player.

  • Reliable and trustworthy.

  • Ability to complete road train maintenance & minor servicing.

  • Basic numeracy & literacy to maintain log-books and records as required.

  • Experience operating heavy machinery – advantageous (eg:  grader, loader).
