Job Description:

  • This is a rare opportunity to join Australian Country Choice in the role of Station Hand at our large-scale cattle breeding properties, Barkly Downs & Redford Station, QLD. 


Barkly Downs, QLD

Located 150 kilometres from Mt Isa, just on the territory border. Barkly has a carrying capacity of 52,000 head across 2.3 million acres. It’s an exciting time to join Barkly, having recently completed significant capital investment into staff facilities, property assets and operational infrastructure, with major developments planned for implementation in the near future.


Redford Station, QLD

Redford Station, just 3 hours west of Roma operates 12,000 head of breeding & backgrounding cattle on 119,600 acres.  

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Station hands do a range of activities that include:

  • Cattle handling & processing using low stress handling techniques

  • Mustering and moving cattle on horseback and 2-wheel motorbike

  • Horse care and feeding

  • Safe operation of vehicles, tools and equipment

  • Accurate collection and recording of data

  • General station activities such as fencing & basic maintenance

Job Requirements:

For Station Hands, ideally you're a competent horse rider with a passion for livestock who has some cattle handling experience - we'll happily teach you the rest.   What we can't teach you, that you must bring is:

  • Experience is essential for this role - mustering and horsemanship.

  • Positive attitude

  • Solid work ethic

  • Willingness to learn and have a go

  • Non-negotiable commitment to working safely

  • Current and valid manual drivers licence

  • Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team

  • Sound physical fitness and agility that enables you to safely undertake physical aspects of the job

  • Australian/NZ permanent resident with unrestricted working rights
