Job Description:

Join an industry-leading Agribusiness and become a valuable member of our team at Sundown Valley station in New South Wales. We are currently seeking a person to join the team as a Head Stockperson.


  • Located in the stunning New England region of NSW, Sundown Valley station boasts a picturesque location, with close proximity to the charming towns of Armidale and Tamworth. This station plays a pivotal role in our Wagyu business, focusing on the production of premium, high-quality cattle. Encompassing an expansive 22,000 hectares, the station successfully manages a herd of 12,000+ head, with an impressive annual turnover of 15,000 cattle.

  • Sundown Valley is a predominantly feeder backgrounding cattle property focused on rotationally grazed pastures with breeders and intensive breeding programs as well as opportunistically trade cattle as part of the operation.

  • Key elements of the Hancock Agriculture property is a focus on a safety culture and a continually improving desire for the highest Animal welfare as a part of the 2GR wagyu brands cattle supply.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Head Stockperson role will lead the livestock focused teams day-to-day activities as well as being a part of the planning and managing priorities of the program.

  • Attributes that are important to this role include a solid understanding of fundamental cattle production processes and good cattle handling including mustering in both intensive systems and hill country.

  • Experience with working dogs and solid horsemanship and is important, along with familiarity with infrastructure and machinery knowledge.

  • The ideal candidate will have a passion for continual learning, open communication and be focused on improving and enhancing our operations, the property and quality of our cattle.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in the movement, handling and processing of cattle, using calm and quiet methods with the advantage of digitalised communication, improved weaner cradles, cattle crushes and yard shading

  • Demonstrated experience in a Head Stockperson role, have working dogs.

  • Ability to provide leadership, supervision, direction and expert advice across station operations

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, be interested to understand why and how we can do it better

  • Ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Proven livestock assessment and husbandry experience

  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety

  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively in the workplace.

  • Utilise technology in the paddock and computer based yard systems.

  • Current Class C driver’s licence

  • A genuine passion for agriculture
