Job Description:

  • Durham Downs Station is situated in the Channel Country of south west Queensland. The nearest towns are Thargomindah and Quilpie. 

  • The property spans 892,791 hectares and runs approximately 17,000 head of cattle. Located on the western bank of the Cooper Creek the property is serviced by an outstation (Woomanooka) on the eastern side, which provides a good base for mustering and allows for two smaller stock camps to work independently or combine for mustering.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Machinery Operator role is primarily responsible for contouring and erosion control (land rehabilitation) at our Kidman Properties. 

  • The role will also involve maintaining station roads, fence lines, airstrips, fire breaks, de-silting dams and wingbank repairs. 

  • The operator will be responsible for servicing and maintaining a Cat 160M grader and Cat 966K loader. 

  • Please note this position is camping out the majority of the time.

Job Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • Relevant earth works experience operating a Grader and Loader (ticketed preferred)

  • Ability to observe general property needs, i.e. fencing, livestock health

  • A self starter that takes pride in workmanship and machinery

  • Safety conscious for self and others

  • Strong ability to problem solve

  • Strong ethic towards keeping machinery and camp in a tidy and orderly fashion

  • Ability to record information and communicate effectively in the workplace

  • Be able to carry out basic machinery maintenance and servicing

  • A current Heavy Rigid (HR) licence

  • Hold a current Class C driver’s licence

  • A genuine passion for Agriculture.


This role will initially be based at Durham Downs and then will move camp to Morney Plains (QLD) and then Helen Springs (NT)
