Job Description:

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Overseer role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Castlevale, supports the Mantuan Downs Station Manager and works alongside the Mantuan Downs Head Stockman and crew. The Overseer manages daily operations, executing the work program, and undertaking property development.


The Castlevale Outstation on Mantuan Downs Station is located between Springsure and Tambo in QLD. A large-scale cattle breeding and finishing property covering 134,000ha of land comprised of brigalow/wilga/ bottle tree scrub to open downs and soft forest hollows.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

Day to day duties include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the outstation

  • Demonstrating and undertaking best practice animal husbandry by maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare

  • Drafting a large cattle population into tight weight groups, upon arrival of cattle from Western stations and into groups prior to entering the feedlot.

  • Support the Station Manager in the development of operational plans and provide instructions to team members.

  • Leading, training and developing staff

  • Prioritising workloads and setting clear work expectations

  • Promoting a safe work environment through embedding safe systems of work

  • Ensuring infrastructure, property assets, machinery, vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard

  • Maintaining accurate records for, including but not limited to, stock movements, treatments, supplement issue and consumption etc

  • Hosting contractors and visitors

  • Maintaining an inclusive and positive culture, that aligns to NAPCo's broader standards

Job Requirements:

Ideally the successful candidate will have/be:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working on station, with at least two years at a leadership level

  • Experience working on a backgrounding property (highly regarded, though not mandatory)

  • Experience in herd, pasture and water management

  • Some experience facilitating CAPEX projects and executing property development plans

  • Strong people leadership skills, an effective communication style with a strong focus on safety and employee wellbeing

  • The ability to build and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders internal and external, including active participation within the local community

  • Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook

  • A MR or HR Licence (or willingness to get one)

  • Current Category AB Weapons License (or ability to get one)

  • Accurate record keeping and sound administration skills

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to change priorities to meet deadlines
