The Victoria River Research Station provides facilities to conduct agricultural research and extension; this position assists with maintaining research trials and ensures the farm is research ready, and that animal welfare and Work Health and Safety requirements are met. Kidman Springs covers approximately 31,400ha in the VRD about 220km south-west of Katherine.

Job Description:
Are you passionate about agriculture, research, and the rich landscape of the Northern Territory? If so, an exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Victoria River Research Station team as a Technical Officer.
Located in the beautiful Big Rivers Region, the Station is a research and demonstration facility focusing on beef cattle production, agricultural trials, and best practice rangeland management.
As Technical Officer you will assist in farming operations, maintenance of farm facilities and equipment and with cattle management activities. Employment comes with the option to occupy a two bedroom house on-site.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist the Farm Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Victoria River Research Station.
Conduct farm operations, livestock management, and farm maintenance activities.
Assist the Farm Manager to facilitate the activities of different research and extension projects conducted on the farm.
Maintain close liaison with research staff working on the Station.
Assist in extension activities involving research stations such as field days and demonstrations.
Job Requirements:
Essential:
An appropriate Associate Diploma or Certificate in Agriculture or a related field, and/or considerable relevant experience.
Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of farm equipment, machinery and infrastructure.
Sound knowledge of the north Australian cattle industry and demonstrated experience with cattle handling and cattle station operations.
A sound understanding of safe work practices with farm management, machinery operation, livestock operations, and in workshop situations
NT driver’s licence and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle.
Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable:
Hold a current HR NT drivers’ licence.
Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification.
Hold a ChemCert or SmarTrain Certificate or have the ability to obtain and maintain this qualification
