Job Description:

A unique opportunity for Experienced Station Manager/Overseers to work on Rio Tinto's iconic Pastoral Stations:

  • Hamersley Station

  • Rocklea Station


Rocklea & Hamersley Station's are breeding and fattening properties, and we primarily run Droughtmasters. Our closest neighbour is the iconic Karijini National Park and we are also within driving distance of Milstream National Park, Ningaloo Reef and the Dampier Archipelago. Breed of cattle is Droughtmaster


We are approximately an hour away from both Paraburdoo and Tom Price. There is Telstra coverage at the homestead, and some coverage across most of the property.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, plan and execute mustering of livestock for processing and sales in accordance with the mustering schedule

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff to ensure they are working in line with Rio Tinto standards

  • Work with leadership team to effectively recruit and onboard staff

  • Support management team to manage budget and identify cost savings

  • Asset management and maintenance plans to ensure ongoing maintenance and improvement of infrastructure and assets - property infrastructure such as fences, mobile and fixed plant, cattle yards, water points

  • Ensure safety standards and processes are embedded, monitored and consistent

  • Manage contractors and suppliers, including cattle trucks and helicopters with approved budgets, and identify operational efficiencies and cost saving initiatives

  • Ensure contractors working alongside Pastoral Team are compliant with RTIO standards and set up for success

  • Educate and coach team on culturally important areas to our Traditional Owners and Traditional Owners engagement

  • Ensure best animal husbandry practices and approaches are implemented across the station to enhance herd performance - low stress stock handling

  • Provide safety leadership through verifications, safety interactions and field leadership

  • Ensure consistent and timely communications, conducting regular pre-starts, team and safety meetings

  • Define performance expectations for employees and contractors and coach performance against these standards, including conducting performance appraisals

  • Ensure succession planning and development of team members including appropriate training and assessment in order for employees to competently, safely and productively perform all aspects of their role.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong background and in experience in managing a pastoral station role essential

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in station maintenance including infrastructure, plant and equipment (yards, water points, fencing, fault finding and understanding bore operations)

  • Experience operating Trucks, 4WD and motorbikes

  • HR License & Gun license required or ability to obtain.

  • Proven experience demonstrating strong safety values and commitment to prioritising safety before operations.

  • Experience with financial acumen and contractor management

  • Strong knowledge of animal welfare/husbandry and/or pastoral/rural management

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate in an organised and flexible manner.

  • Strong leadership skills. Mentoring and building capability

  • Understanding of safety management systems

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills

  • Sound computer skills and ability to utilise required software platforms

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Low stress handling
